Message from the Mayor
Welcome to the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality Website.
Sun Peaks has witnessed incredible growth over the past 7 years.? In 2011, the nadian census indited that 371 people lived year-round in Sun Peaks.? By 2016, the new census number was 616 people which is a 66% increase in just 5 years.? We estimate that today around 850 people ll Sun Peaks their year-round home.
In 2010 when the municipality was formed, a brand new school named Sun Peaks Discovery Centre was created and taught 18 students. Currently, we have 105 students in the elementary school and an additional 29 students in the high school program.
This summer, the Globe & Mail reported that Sun Peaks had the highest percentage of foreign property ownership in the Province inditing that 17% of all properties were reported to be owned by non-nadians. This is a remarkable endorsement for our community and the investment and vision of the resort’s developer, Sun Peaks Resort LLP.
We have opened a new health facility with several well accomplished physicians to provide health services to residents, property owners and guests of the resort. ?We were very fortunate to attract a strong medil team.
This past year, the municipality assumed responsibility for the water and waste water utilities; a big step that more than doubled the municipal budgets. ?We have maintained a small and dedited staff at our office loted in the Kookaburra Lodge building.
I am not in the municipal offices every day, however, if you wish to meet to discuss any Sun Peaks issues, I would be pleased to organize a meeting to hear your thoughts.
Enjoy Sun Peaks and please respect our natural beauty and environment.? See you on the slopes!
Al Raine
Mayor, Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality.
